Infineon Introduces Biometric Fingerprint Sensors for Automotive Security and Personalization

CYFP10020x00 EV board with fingerprint module.

Infineon Technologies has launched the CYFP10020x00 series, a new line of automotive-grade biometric fingerprint sensor ICs designed to enhance in-vehicle security, personalization, and payment applications. These sensors, built to meet the stringent AEC-Q100 automotive standards, offer a seamless way for vehicles to identify and authenticate drivers, providing a simple and secure method for in-car payments, parking, and personalized settings.

Paired with Infineon’s Traveo T2G Cortex M4 microcontroller family, the fingerprint sensors capture and process high-resolution images of a driver’s fingerprint using Precise Biometrics' Biomatch algorithm. The technology is designed for speed and accuracy, with an image acquisition time of just 160 milliseconds, a false reject rate of under 1.5%, and a false accept rate of less than one in 100,000 reads.

Housed in a compact 8.9 mm x 9.3 mm BGA package with an 8 mm x 8 mm sensing area, the sensor operates on a single 3.3V rail and offers flexibility for manufacturers with customizable coatings and bezels. Its durability, wide operating temperature range, and fast authentication process make it ideal for mission-critical automotive applications, such as driver identification and secure payments.

As the global automotive fingerprint market is expected to grow rapidly, Infineon's new sensor technology presents a cost-effective and efficient option for OEMs looking to improve security and user experience in vehicles. With the rise of connected vehicles and advanced personalization features, biometric fingerprint sensors are set to play a critical role in the future of automotive innovation.
